Persona 4 Arena Arcade Announced For Japan, New Fighters

by Brian Albert on Aug 16, 2013 at 10:12 AM

Update: We reached out to Atlus to find out if any more details could be gleaned about to this new Persona 4 Arena outside of what has already been detailed. Unfortunately, Atlus was not ready to share any new details. The information covered by Famitsu magazine is in regard to the game's currently Japan-exclusive arcade cabinet. It's unclear if the new fighters will make their way to the retail versions of the game as DLC or a new release, let alone if it will make it here to the United States. For the foreseeable future, the only way to play as Yukari Takeba or Junpei Iori, will be with this arcade cabinet version.

Original story:

According to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Arc System Works has announced a follow-up to last year’s fighter, Persona 4 Arena.

The game will reportedly include at least two new fighters: Yukari Takeba and Junpei Iori, both from Persona 3. The characters have new outfits to demonstrate the time skip between Persona 3 and Persona 4.

If you happen to live near Akihabara Hey in Tokyo or Taito Station Nipponbashi in Osaka, you’ll be able to check out the game from August 16-18 at location testing events.

Our Take:
Though I'm not much of a fighting game fan myself, I do appreciate when games that deviate from their original genre continue to enrich the narrative of the series from which they were born. Persona 4 Arena was praised for doing this, so hopefully that aspect won't change in the sequel.
