Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Back Up

by Matthew Kato on Aug 16, 2013 at 07:03 AM

Update: Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition creative director Trent Oster has offered a brief comment on the game's recent reappearance.

We've resolved our issues and we are happy to be back working on BG.  As for details, there isn't much I can offer.  Due to number of parties involved in the original agreement, the deal is complex.  Working with our partners we've managed to get everything back online.  We did express interest in acquiring the rights, but we were unsuccessful.

Original story:

Developer Beamdog has announced that its Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for PC, Mac, and iOS is available once again on Beamdog's site and the Apple store after the resolution of a legal affair with Atari.

Atari was still selling the game in other places during the legal blackout, and now Beamdog can resume business as usual for its updated version of the classic.

Beamdog is currently at work on a patch for the game, an Android version, and an Enhanced Edition for Baldur's Gate 2.

Our Take:
Critical reaction to Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was decidedly mixed when it released several months ago. In particular, the iOS version was taken to task for some questionable controls. Nonetheless, Baldur's Gate is one of the great RPGs of all time, so it's good news that more players may be able to check it out. Anybody been playing this? What kinds of things would you like to see addressed in the patch?
