The lights are on
Update: Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition creative director Trent Oster has offered a brief comment on the game's recent reappearance.
We've resolved our issues and we are happy to be back working on BG. As for details, there isn't much I can offer. Due to number of parties involved in the original agreement, the deal is complex. Working with our partners we've managed to get everything back online. We did express interest in acquiring the rights, but we were unsuccessful.
Developer Beamdog has announced that its Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for PC, Mac, and iOS is available once again on Beamdog's site and the Apple store after the resolution of a legal affair with Atari.
Atari was still selling the game in other places during the legal blackout, and now Beamdog can resume business as usual for its updated version of the classic.
Beamdog is currently at work on a patch for the game, an Android version, and an Enhanced Edition for Baldur's Gate 2.
Our Take:Critical reaction to Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was decidedly mixed when it released several months ago. In particular, the iOS version was taken to task for some questionable controls. Nonetheless, Baldur's Gate is one of the great RPGs of all time, so it's good news that more players may be able to check it out. Anybody been playing this? What kinds of things would you like to see addressed in the patch?

Hell yeah BG: II
Yes! I'm really happy that they resolved the issue with Atari. I can't wait for the release of Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. Not enough people have experienced this great series.
Rad, loved Baldur's Gate back in the day. Will have to pick this up since my original copy went MIA. I blame theft by jackass roommate.
Who is at work with suddenly tighter pants? THIS GUY!
Hopefully they don't take too long to get to BGEE2, how I am craving some more fantastic cRPG goodness.
Android versions can't come soon enough...
Im more excited about the BG2 news!
Bring on BG2:EE!!
I named my main pawn in Dragon's dogma minsc so nerds like me would use him more. First rpg I ever played. Been hooked since.
I just checked - it's not on the app store for iOS....so I cry foul.
And my journey shall resume unhindered.
Yay!! Now I can finally get this. Been wanting to play for a long time.
Glad that they got that cleared up but I've been reading that Beamdog wants to do a BG 3. My question is how would that work, as TOB ending was pretty definite unless you chose the other path? Any information would be much appreciated as I loved both games but BG2 especially and am wondering how they would make a BG3 fit other than merely sharing the name Baldur's Gate.
I'm glad that's done. I've been waiting for Baldur's gate II: Enhanced Edition.
