The lights are on
As reality TV continues its effort to produce shows on
literally everything that human beings do ever on Earth, cosplay gets its
SyFy's Heroes of Cosplay will air its first episode tonight
at 10:30/9:30 Central p.m. You can watch the first trailer for the show below.
Our Take:A former colleague of mine, Meagan Marie (now with Square
Enix) is deeply involved in cosplay and I can attest to the amount of time and
effort that she puts into creating her costumes. However, I'm guessing this
show is going to largely follow the formula of focusing on the squabbling
between contestant and drama rather than the hobby itself. I'm sure at least
one of these cosplayers, likely whoever is a complete sociopath, will soon be a
star on Talk Soup. For a better look at cosplay, check out some of the CosBlogs
that Meagan has posted on our site.

I was intrigued by the trailer for it so I have it set to be recorded for viewing tomorrow morning. I'm also guessing that they'll just put more of a focus on the petty squabbles and pointless drama rather then what i would hope to see, which is interviews with the cosplayers on how they went about making their costume, what sort of techniques they might have used, and what led them to cosplay that particular character. So, I'm hopeful, but I won't be shocked if it turns into another modern tv drama show of a sort.
I hope people don't look down on this show just because it is "reality TV". Just from watching the trailer, I recognized Commander Holly and Yaya Han. Two people who I respect a lot for their effort in the cosplay universe. And that is coming from me, a guy who doesn't even cosplay.
Looks interesting might check it out!
I'm concerned there will be too much of a focus on the construction of the outfits and some petty drummed up drama and not enough focus on what actually makes cosplay so inspiring and popular. Boobs.
From the network studio that brought us gems like Sharknado and Piranhaconda, I'm not holding my breath.
I like the idea. I'll definately give the show a chance. But if its just gonna be a bunch of dumb-ass drama ***. I'll end up passing
Hey Matt! Who ate the Scarlet Witch???
Love ya buddy
This might be interesting. I'm not usually one for reality TV (except for a few competition-type shows) but this might be interesting to watch. I am like you though, I'm also afraid that they are going to focus WAY too much on the squabbling and drama, like all the other reality shows...
I agree with the "Our Take" section. Probably just another childish reality drama "oh no he di-int" show with bits of cosplay thrown in. But obviously people love these shows because there are so freaking many of them. That's all the Discovery channel is now, same with Animal Planet, and the "History" Channel.
*two thumbs up* right on...just wish i had the cash to do it. and cable.
I'm sure it will be awful.
