Infographic Shows Incredible Amount Of Time Spent Playing Call of Duty

by Matt Helgeson on Aug 13, 2013 at 09:35 AM

It's not exactly news that Activision's Call of Duty franchise is extremely popular, but a new infographic released today show just how popular it is. Spoiler: It's really, really popular.

Some of the highlights include:

  • The number of people who have played Call of Duty (100 million) is greater than the population of the United Kingdom, Germany, or France
  • Enough care packages have been dropped to construct 100 Great Walls of China
  • 2.85 million years of Call of Duty have been played online - that's longer than the entirety of human existence!

For more of these sobering fun facts, click on the image below for a larger version of the infographic provided by Activision.

Our Take:
I don't know whether to be impressed or disturbed. Longer than all of human existence - just think about that for a second. The other thing that's clear is that the pundits in the press like myself might have to rethink this idea that Call of Duty is bound to fall off. I've been predicting a decline in its popularity for some time, yet each iteration seems to sell more than the last one. Perhaps Call of Duty has verged into the realm of sports games, with a loyal audience that just wants more new competition each year.
