The lights are on
Namco Bandai, the Japanese publisher best known Pac-Man and more recently the Dark Souls series, has opened a new office on Vancouver, Canada. Namco BAndai also published the recently released Tales of Xillia.
The studio will handle social and mobile games for Namco Bandai, and currently employs about 30 employees. Namco Bandai was convinced to open a studio in Vancouver by minister of international Trade, Ed Fast, who speaking with the Vancouver Sun said, “(We) again drove home the fact that Canada is a place that should be their gateway into North America... clearly they listened.”
Canada has become a huge hub for video game developers and publishers over the years. Just looking at the recent list of the 2012 Canada Video Game awards (which are only given to games developed in Canada) shows how many great games are coming out of the country.

Our TakeExpansion is always a good thing, even if personally I would rather see Namco Bandai focusing on its larger games like Tales or Dark Souls. Maybe we will see Tales, Tekken, or Dark Souls mobile games from this studio soon. There is certainly potential there from for some interesting experiences based on Namco Bandai licenses.

This is good! I'm a fan of Dark Souls, and more of that would be great! Not yearly, though. Don't want that...
vancouver is my favourite city in canada...once im done law school, i will leave there..
Aside from Bioware Montreal, us Canadians have some pretty good company in the game development companies :)
We need a digimon world on the 3ds. those games are incredibly fun.
Yay! More mobil;e crap from the land of the rising sun!
Kyle, do not tell them to make mobile games, what're you doing? I think you mean handheld.
I need the .hack series back Namco...westernize it!
A studio just for moblie and social games.....There's only one game I can think of that I want in that category and it's for my android. To be honest not entirely sure what social games are unless they're like the ones on facebook (Which A LOT of people like for some reason >_> ).
This is great news for Namco Bandai and for Canada. More jobs and game projects are always a good thing. ^_^
Awesome news. A Dark Souls mobile game could be pretty cool. I just hope that if they release some cool games they'll do it for all the platforms IOS, Android, etc. and not just on one.
