Virtuix Now Taking Pre-Orders On Its Virtual Reality Omnidirectional Treadmill

by Kyle Hilliard on Aug 10, 2013 at 07:51 AM

We're moving closer and closer to in-home virtual reality every day. The Oculus Rift is out in the consumer wild, and Virtuix has now opened up reserves for its omnidirectional treadmill.

You can head here to see the impressive treadmill in action. You can get the Omni and one pair of the necessary shoes for $499, or you can opt for two devices with three pairs of shoes for $1,019. To go ahead and put your money down, you can head to Virtuix's website. The treadmill will be heading to consumers in March of 2014, giving you plenty of time to train.

Our Take
Viruix's Omni looks amazing, especially when coupled with the Oculus Rift. It also looks somewhat impractical. I wrote recently about the Oculus Rift, pointing out that despite its amazing unbridled immersion, I am not sure if it will be my first choice for the way I will play games in the future. I think the Omni might offer a similar experience: incredibly immersive, but unwieldy. I can't wait to try one out, though.
