GameStop Offering $50 Trade-In Credit For Purchase of Xbox One Games

by Matt Helgeson on Aug 08, 2013 at 03:52 PM

If you want to upgrade your 360 copy of some of the year's biggest franchises to a shiny new Xbox One disc, GameStop is offering a $50 trade-in credit.

According to this press release, GameStop will be offering Power-Up Rewards members a $50 minimum guaranteed trade-in value on 360 version of some popular games also available on Xbox One. These games include:

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Madden NFL 25

FIFA 14

Battlefield 4

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

One bit of fine print: You'll have to purchase your 360 game at GameStop within 30 days of its release. At that point, you'll be emailed a coupon that guarantees you a $50 trade-in credit when applied towards purchasing the Xbox One version of the same game - meaning that you essentially pay $9.99 to upgrade to the Xbox One version. This offer will expire on December 31, 2013.

[Full disclosure: GameStop is Game Informer's parent company]

Our Take
If you're inclined to want to play both versions of one of these upcoming blockbusters, this seems like a pretty good deal. While not everyone wants to upgrade their games, I do think that some of these titles - particularly the sports games - might be suited to this program, as no self-respecting Madden fan is going to wait until the new consoles come out to get in on some video game football. Also, your opinion of used games sales aside; the right to trade in and resell games is obviously something that gamers take very seriously, especially in light of the recent scandals surrounding Microsoft's used games policies.
