The lights are on
Square Enix's reboot of its Final Fantasy MMO has been a long time coming, and players can get their hands on it this month.
The game's open beta occurs from August 17th through the 19th for both the PC and PlayStation 3, and if you've pre-ordered the game you can get early access to it on August 24.
Square Enix has also announced other goodies for the game, including bonuses depending on how long you've been a subscriber, a free companion app (Final Fantasy XIV: Libra Eorzea) that will come out a week after the game's launch, and a free play period (until September 9) for those that registered for Final Fantasy XIV 1.0.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn releases on August 27 for PlayStation 3 and PC.
For more on the game, here is the latest trailer, as well as what Kim thought about its showing at E3.
Our TakeIt will be interesting to see how this reboot goes over, but at a minimum I applaud Square Enix's perseverance with this project and its attempts to make something that tries to live up to the brand.

I am pretty excited for this. Art style is very similar to FFXI, the game itself looks pretty and as I have been playing the beta I can say, its really fun to play. If you are expecting dramatic evolution of the genre, this isn't it, it certainly has plenty of the tropes we have already seen in many other MMOs, but its still a lot of fun.
I'm looking forward to it.
Can't wait to get this. It's nice to see consoles finally getting in on the console market, even though Final Fantasy was ahead of its time and doing it years ago. Its nice to see that more effort (financial as well as creative) is being put into them.
Yay! I can't wait to try it out!
I got into the closed beta and it is a really polished experience. Plays perfectly with a keyboard and mouse or a controller.
Really excited for this to come out. I played the beta phase 3 for ps3 and loved it, it's exactly the type of game, universe, style, and lore that it seems the final fantasy 13 haters were looking for save for the battle system. Unfortunately it's an mmo, and I think that will dissuade the people put off by recent entries from giving it a try. It's very addicting, and I would love for it to be free to play as well, however I have found more often than not in life that the phrase "you get what you pay for" holds true.
nice. can't wait to play it again!!!
Well, I'll try the open beta on both platforms, and if either impress me, I'll be sure to hop in soon enough. Though, I must admit I'm cautious about monthly subscription games.
I never thought FF XIV could recover from the absolute, pathetic trainwreck it once was. And yet here I am excited for ARR. They are poised to prove me wrong.
