Zynga Announces The Closure Of Four Games And OMGPop.com

by Kyle Hilliard on Aug 06, 2013 at 03:20 PM

Zynga is closing down four of its games, and shutting down OMGPop.com, "to make way for new and exciting gaming opportunities."

OMGPop is the developer behind Draw Something, Draw Something 2, and Draw My Thing. Along the website's closure, games Cupcake Corner, Gem Rush, Pool World Champ, and Snoops will no longer be active after August 29. The closure of the website will not affect the Draw Something games.

The closure of the website is not surprising considering the closure of OMGPop in June.

Recently, Don Mattrick left his position as president of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business to become CEO of Zynga.

Our Take
Zynga has seen its fair share of financial trouble recently. These cuts are likely the result of Mattrick's new role at the company. Zynga's claims that the cuts are being made for the sake of "new and exciting" opportunities is certainly possible, but it seems more likely that they are a necessary evil to keep the company healthy. Hopefully Mattrick can make some positive changes for the company. Zynga may be a pariah in the hardcore versus casual gaming argument, but it's never good news to hear about gaming companies struggling.
