The lights are on
During this year's QuakeCon, id Software co-founder Tim Willits said that Rage was not meant to be a one-off experience.
Speaking with Joystiq, Willits didn't announce any formal plans for a Rage sequel, but assured that the franchise has not been abandoned.
"I'm proud of what we did, I'm proud of the universe that we built. The franchise is not dead. We're not doing anything immediately with it, but when I designed the universe, I designed it in such a way that it would be easy to step back into. I'm still proud that we did something that was different – it wasn't like the games that we've done in the past."
For more on Rage, be sure to check out our review from when the game released back in 2011.
Our TakeIn our review for the game, Andrew Reiner described the game's story and ending this way:
"Just when it seems this story might produce a meaty plot thread, the game ends unexpectedly with no major confrontation or sense of victory leading up to it. The best comparison I can think of is if Star Wars ended with Obi-Wan lowering the Death Star’s tractor beam. Roll credits."
The story and world proved to be the game's most disappointing aspect, and as such, we certainly wouldn't complain about id giving it another go. There's more that can happen in Rage's world, and after the first game's disappointing ending, we wouldn't mind diving back in.

Rage was actually really good
I really had fun with this game then it just ended so anti-climactically. That was a shame, there was a lot to do with it, the racing was fun, the twisted metal-style "racing" was a blast (pun intended), the FPS mechanics were spot on and finally the TCG game was simplistic and surprising addictive. I really hope they come back to Rage with more. It was just a fun world to romp around in with some slight graphical pop-in that I found easy to overlook... I might have to go pick this one up again because I want more XD
I loved RAGE and would welcome a sequel. My only complaint was that it was such a short game. Of course, considering that RAGE took decades to make, I'm not holding my breath for a sequel....
Rage was awesome. It was short, but it is solid entertainment. The ending was crap. I really wanted more out of the character but if they do another I hope the world gets fleshed out more. I saw some docu's that they wanted to make the main protagonist a blank slate for the player to slip into, but this was just complete blank sheet. For interested, pick up the novelization. Its a really good read and fleshes out the story more and gives you the main character's name.
The game was bad.
Rage, also knowns as Fallout, with car races....
I actually enjoyed RAGE a lot. Granted the story was completely non existent and the ending just...well nothing, but the gameplay was very fun; I especially liked the weapons like the wingsticks and sentry bots. IMO RAGE had some of the smartest AI I've ever seen in a game. So I would love to see another RAGE, as long as they fix on the mistakes of the first and leave out that god awful Twisted Metal rip off multiplayer.
I actually loved Rage. It was very short but a very good game. I hope they bring back a sequel.
id did an amazing job with Rage, although there is room for improvement. Seeing them come back to the franchise (especially with that cliff hanger ending) is definitely a good choice.
I don't think I've gone back for the DLC yet, but I enjoyed Rage...especially the card game.
