The lights are on
The PlayStation 4 is getting two enhancements to its social profile when the system arrives later this year. If you’ve ever lamented the absence of party chat or have hit your friends list cap, there’s some good news.
In a new PlayStation Access video produced by Sony’s European team, the company answers ten new questions from fans. Not only will the PlayStation 4 offer party chat, but Sony has confirmed that it, free-to-play games, and media services like Netflix will not be behind the PlayStation Plus paywall.
As was quietly revealed at E3, multiplayer gaming will now be subscription based, just like on Xbox Live. Additionally, both Microsoft and Sony are upping the friend list size in the next generation. Sony’s video confirms 2,000 friends, while Microsoft offers up 1,000 comrades on the Xbox One.
Our TakeIt’s great that both Microsoft and Sony are increasing the size of the friends lists. For me, there is no difference between the two. I won’t ever fill up my list on Xbox One with 1,000 people (and never even hit the 100-friend cap on Xbox 360). The PlayStation 4’s 2,000 friend list, while double, is going to be a negligible difference for many gamers.
The introduction of party chat for the PS4, on the other hand, is very big news. Party chat on Xbox Live is invaluable for coordinating with friends before playing and quick conversations while online. It’s a feature that PlayStation 3 owners have been asking for, and it’s great that it will be available on the new console.

I love this, and I'm more then likely not ever going to have over 50 friends on my list but it's great to know we have that much room just because. Party Chat is a great addition I'm glad Sony is finally giving us this. I'm more then willing to pay for Multiplayer so hopefully the server's run a lot smoother.
Can I party chat with all 2000?
That's great and all but who has 2000 real-life friends, let alone online friends. Glad to hear about the party talk though.
2000!!! Honestly...... I have about 50 people on my PS3 friends list I can barely keep up with half of them.
nobody has 1000 or 2000 friends..it doesnt make sense. it is becomng like fb with some people who has 1000 to 4000 "friends" but only know about 50 to 100 of them...and i dont know who plays games with 1000 people...it is not needed lol...for me the max maybe 300
I first read ps4 will support party chat with 2,00 friends
Anyone trying to fill up these friends lists is like one of those kids on Facebook with 287,954 friends. Just ridiculous. It is very nice to not have to worry about running out of spaces to add friends though.
I'm sure you've heard this before Sony, but, that's a step in the right direction.
yep i needed 2000 friends
only if I had 2000 friends. haha
Took them long enough.
