Update: More Than 4,000 Players Take Up Arms In EVE Online

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 29, 2013 at 02:12 PM

Update: CCP is still working through all the statistics of the battle, but it has revealed a few numbers. The most combatants that were online at one time capped out at 4,070 players, but CCP says the more than 5,000 players were involved.

You can head here to read the original declaration of war, and you can head here for a statistical breakdown of the battle.

Original story:

As this story publishes online, EVE Online is currently embroiled in one of the biggest battles the game has ever experienced.

Earlier this year, we wrote a story about another large battle that broke out in EVE Online. This battle has already exceeded the scope of that battle by more than 1,000 players.

This battle is the product of planning, unlike the war that broke out earlier this year. In expectation of the large number of players, CCP Games has slowed time in the game in order to compensate the overburdened server.

We've reached out to CCP Games for a progress report to see if any EVE Online records have been broken. In the mean time, to see the battle in action, you can check out this live stream from drew_qt.

Our Take
EVE Online is a dense, difficult to digest game, but the community that has embraced it is clearly passionate. To see all these players playing the game simultaneously is very impressive.
