The lights are on
Shigesato Itoi is a multitalented author, known is Japan for his writing, but in North America, he is best known as the mind behind EarthBound. He recently published an essay expressing his appreciation for Earthbound and all of its fans.
You can head here to read the full essay, which shows a genuine appreciation for the game and its fans:
All sorts of people tell me about their memories, about all the things I left in the playground called Earthbound. From the tiny safety pins, broken pieces of colored glass to the withering leaves. When I ask them, “how do you remember so much?”With their eyes gleaming, they say, “I love that world so much I remember everything about it.” I reply right away saying “me too.”
As a product of the new found excitement surrounding EarthBound, Nintendo set up a special site that offers a digital version of the original strategy guide sold with the game.
Our TakeMost of us are big fans of EarthBound here at Game Informer. It's exciting to see it take on a new life with the Virtual Console release. It makes me slightly more optimistic that a localized version of Mother 3 (the Japanese name for the EarthBound series) will come to North America.

Well thats something, not always you see a creator so thankful to his fans, espcially a game with such history like earthbound
Wow, the creator of Earthbound loves it so much. No suprise there. What's not to love? It's a sprawling world with some top-notch characters and dialogue. Maybe, since he loves it so much, we can get some more Mother love in 'Murica? Maybe? Please?
I have yet to play this game, but after hearing so much about Earthbound and the Mother series over the years, I'm quite excited to pick this up when I get my Wii U! Hopefully this leads to Mother 3, and maybe even Mother 1, getting an official translation and release.
I think Mother 3 was on the DS or Gameboy advance in Japan. I also know that some people have all ready translated Mother 3 for free. I wish they released Earthbound on the 3DS then I will be convinced they are serious about the Mother trilogy.
this article makes me happy :')
It's a shame he doesn't want to do Mother 4. Earthbound is amazing.
