The lights are on
CD Projekt, developer of the Witcher series, made its Witcher 2 DLC free of charge. After a recent interview with Examiner, it looks like we might see the same deal for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
"We could sell extra content to gamers down the road, but we don't believe in that," said game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. "Only something really big, and something that will not make you feel ripped off, justifies a price tag."
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release in 2014 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Click the banner below to see all of our exclusive Witcher 3 content.
Our TakeWhile this is clearly good news for the consumer, we're left to wonder exactly what Tomaszkiewicz means by "something really big." We've certainly seen huge add-ons this generation like Oblivion's Shivering Isles DLC, but most tends to be smaller in size and scope.
If only every developer operated like this.
Shivering isles was an exspansion , which technically falls under 'add-on' content, but are traditionally larger and are usually sold at around $40 which Shivering Isles was. I wonder if They would go that route of making an expensive exspansion or something large that is still affordable. Considering they are willing to give away free dlc they might be willing to give a large amount of content for a lower price tag.
I don't like paid DLCs, but I personally don't mind paying extra for a good Expansion Pack. (And can't wait to play The Witcher 3!)
I'm so excited for this game. CD Projekt is nothing but quality inside & out.
They are trying to construct a base for a priced DLC.
If they are trying to establish a new standard on what not to charge consumers then that's fantastic! By setting an example they can show other developers that if they want to make us pay for something then make it worthwhile; don't try to sell us horse armor -_-
I love these guys. Nice to see some people don't forget where they came from. So many A-Holes in the gaming industry/media and too many idiots fool enough to buy into it.
These guys are a class act which is so hard to find in Gaming now a days
That's always great to hear that a developer plans to give out its DLC for free. And I would be more than okay paying for huge content.
I wish every designer said this. I totally agree. If its big enough, charge for it. Not a huge deal. But if a DLC only presents a couple hours of additional gameplay, then just release it for free.
I love this developer
This is why I love the Witcher series and it's developer CD Projekt. In a media where we are constantly nickled and dimed for content that should be on disc we still have a few good developers that aren't trying to half-*** a game.
These guys. I like them.
That's good to know.
at least one company who think normally while others are just trying to gouge gamers
I love CD Projekt because they love gamers! I will buy any of their games day one!
Can't wait for The Witcher 3 on PS4!
