The lights are on
CD Projekt, developer of the Witcher series, made its Witcher 2 DLC free of charge. After a recent interview with Examiner, it looks like we might see the same deal for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
"We could sell extra content to gamers down the road, but we don't believe in that," said game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. "Only something really big, and something that will not make you feel ripped off, justifies a price tag."
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release in 2014 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Click the banner below to see all of our exclusive Witcher 3 content.
Our TakeWhile this is clearly good news for the consumer, we're left to wonder exactly what Tomaszkiewicz means by "something really big." We've certainly seen huge add-ons this generation like Oblivion's Shivering Isles DLC, but most tends to be smaller in size and scope.
Was already considering getting this even without having played 2, but now im pretty much sold. Truly good hearted developers are few and far between now thanks to activision/ubisoft/EA. Rather than making you pay the cost of a full game for less than a half game (looking at you cod), charge for a half game that feels deep enough to be its own full guam (ie shivering isles). Thats how you get loyal fanbases and not cash drones
I wish more developers would think that way. I'm sick of having to pay 10 bucks for a map pack a month after a game releases. Why not just put more maps into a game and you won't have to release loads of map packs that will make people pay about 30 to 40 dollars extra for their game?
I wish more companies though this way. *cough* EA *cough*
This is the reason I bought a 360 copy of this game after I had already bought and played (and played the heck out of) the PC version. I wanted to do my bit to make this amazing company a success. I hope their hard work and stellar attitude pays off financially, if so we might, MIGHT, see a few other developers taking a look at how they do business.
This is why I bought Witcher 1 and 2...These guys are honest people!!
These guys were so enthusiastic at the different conventions even though they had to answer the same questions over and over. It shows you how much they love their game and want to share it with us. CD Projekt is an amazing company and Tom Tomaszkiewicz can stand beside the greats of the industry.
This is why I love these guys! They put their hearts and souls into the games they create and they want us to enjoy it to its full extent
Good like it's supposed to be!
Witcher 3 is my most anticipated title of the next gen games already announced. It looks stellar.
That's is the way it should be
Apart from the lack of patches for the mouse lag of Witcher 2 (not an easy fix), these chaps a genuine heroes.
I will definitely buy this game now, I want to hear more on cyberpunk though!
Can't wait for The Witcher 3.
That is how all games should be. Unless it is a free to play game. Charging for little things in a paid game is almost criminal in my mind.
Sounds good to me.
