The lights are on
Day Z Standalone is still going to be a while, but a group of modders have found a way to ease the wait. Day Z is still amusingly buggy at times, but now it's playable in the beauty of Arma 3's engine.
Arma 3 is available via Steam's Early Access program, and it's currently in beta. The Zoombies team has taken advantage of that to put a coat of polish on Dean Hall's addictive zombie survival creation.
One of the key improvements seems to be the enhanced inventory system. Watching videos of the Day Z mod on Arma 2 is typically filled with extended inventory management moments. Arma 3's gear management is much more friendly.
You can read more about the mod at PC Gamer, who has hands-on with the Arma 3 version.

Our TakeAn update to Day Z is definitely going to take the sting out of the wait for the standalone version. This isn't just a coat of paint, though. With the move to Arma 3 comes improved performance and a better inventory system. The only thing I wonder is if this ends up working really well, what's the standalone version going to do that makes it a good purchase?

"...the Zoombies team..." all the way.
Nice. Now if only my computer could support it...
Seen a few videos of this on Youtube. It looks a lot more colorful which I like. I have DayZ for my laptop and I'm enjoying it so far.
How about a standalone release date?
I guess I'll give this a go until the standalone version releases.
"What's the standalone version going to do that makes it a good purchase?"
Update itself via Steam and not be behind constantly. That's worth money to me right there.
The steam version of day z is horrendous, so Ive been kinda been put off, arma is a good enough game by itself.
If I had a PC this would be the first game I would get so I could play DayZ.
Friday July 26th at 1:00pm CST , I will be doing a live Q/A with the developer of the DayZ [A3] Zoombies mod, MistaD. This Q/A will be live on Twitch at www.twitch.tv/unknwn01. MistaD will be going over the mods progress, new features, and what to look forward to in the future. Then we will get into the Q/A so if you have any questions you would like to ask MistaD be sure to watch.
So if I want to play Day Z, do I now need to buy Arma II, the expansion, and the Arma III beta? Can I just buy the Arma III beta? Can I opt out of the Arma III update and play with Arma II and expansion? I've been sorta interested, but no clue how to go about it.
Dang, that looks good
I've noticed people been sucking this game off, good stuff.
I want the standalone! Please!
Did they just raise the bar for the standalone version, or give the series just enough of a publicity boost to keep their fans talking....
