The lights are on
FIFA 13 is still a big winner for EA, with a number of different products continuing to bring in revenue. During the second quarter 2014 earnings call, the publisher touted it's flagship soccer title's placement in the top five biggest titles in the West.
FIFA Ultimate Team continues to drive revenue over the long term, and today EA announced that players will be able to carry their progress through to next generation. FIFA is also big in Asia, with FIFA Online 3 holding the number one online spot in Korea and number two spot for games played at internet cafés. EA partners with Nexon in Korea.
FIFA Online 3 is coming to China, to be announced formally later today. TenCent is the partner for that country.
Our TakeSoccer might not be the biggest sport in the United States, but we are in the minority. Everywhere else in the world, the sport is huge, and in as many countries as it exists, so is FIFA.
The Ultimate Team mode, which uses trading cards that are obtained in part with real money, has extended the revenue. It's a brilliant bridge from one year's installment to the next, and based on what we're hearing, it's paying off (which is why a version exists in many EA Sports titles now).
