The lights are on
It can be tough to reach the conclusion of a game. After all, we've been working up to that very moment. Sometimes we walk away satisfied, other times we're disappointed.
As someone who has felt both feelings, I always wonder what endings others think hit it out of the park. Irrational Games' BioShock series has been the most consistent delivering the types of endings I want. I love when I think about an ending well after I've beat a game. It's hard to deny that endings are becoming more and more important to us. The Mass Effect 3 ending left many fans fighting for something more, which led to DLC for more clarification.
As games start telling deeper stories, we're more attached to characters and tuned into what's happening in the story arc. The ending is the last thing we have to hold on to about a game. How many of you right after you finished The Last of Us went an discussed the ending with someone? The need to analyze and reflect on these moments are part of why our Spoiled! videos have become so popular. Discussing the end lets us put the game in perspective and evaluate if it's effective. Endings can be so wildly debated that it's fascinating to see a plethora of opinions on what games people felt got it right.
What games feature some of your favorite endings? Why do you like them so much?
Note: If you're going to discuss spoilers, please put a big spoiler alert before you go into detail. After all, you just might entice someone to try out a game they never considered before, and who wants to be spoiled on something you consider one of the best finales?

Birth By Sleep was one of my favorite endings.
Arkham City. I hated it at first, but I later realized it was the most conclusive ending to a game I've seen in years.
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X
Silent Hill 2
Metal Gear Solid
The Last of Us
OUCH. Tough Question. However I'd probably go with Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, simply because it was the first game that made me cry when I beat it. SPOILER ALERT: Regardless of the ending, I know that everything turns out okay for the main characters in later games, but still, the ending just doesn't work out very well in their favor, when all they wanted was to live their lives, and it's just so depressing!...AND I LOVE IT.
Persona 3 & 4 "best" endings for me. The third's ending almost had me crying and the fourth's ending left me feeling complete.
Mass Effect 2 had an awesome ending.
Really loved the ending of Mass Effect 2, as well as Red Dead Redemption. Recently, The Last of Us also had an awesome ending.
Read Dead Redemption, Mass Effect (All of them, even 3, were great and satisfying while leaving a sense of wonder in my opinion), and The Last of Us. I liked Uncharted 2 as well, but I prefer more serious games to more lighthearted ones like the Uncharted series.
I liked Dishonored's ending where you were still chaotic but saved the empress's daughter. The monologue just had a tone of "you did your best and all in all you made things better, sure not everything worked out but you still did what needed to be done." I just always thought that ending seemed more "Real" than most videogame endings
I like Shadow of the Colossus the most. Although I am also quite fond of the ending to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
Love The Last of Us. I never expected that ending.
Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us are up there with MGS 3 in my opinion.
I might have to go with Mass Effect 2. Despite the terrible, terrible boss battle, the fact that most, if not all, of your squad and especially your character can die is very striking. The cutscenes also deserve mention. Running back to the Normandy with the epic music playing and Harbinger releasing control are incredible and then the flash to the Reapers flying to the galaxy... Oh my god that left me anticipating the next game so much
The Silent Hill 3 UFO ending, probably...it's just so stupid and absurd and yet I laugh every single time I see it.
