Online Services For SOCOM Confrontation, SOCOM 4, And MAG Ending In January

by Mike Futter on Jul 16, 2013 at 12:23 PM

Sony has just announced that online services for three shooters will be ending in early 2014. SOCOM Confrontation, SOCOM 4, and MAG will be losing their multiplayer components in just a few months.

The news comes via the official PlayStation Twitter account. This will essentially make SOCOM Confrontation and MAG worthless, as both are exclusively online titles. SOCOM 4 has a single-player campaign and may still be worthwhile.

Our Take
It's always disappointing when online services are shut down, thereby making it impossible to use core functions. However, these are business decisions that are derived from low player counts and level server costs. It's unrealistic to expect Sony to change its mind, and the only time I recall a company doing so was Atlus with Demon's Souls.

Make the most of the time you have left. Get in a few more matches before everything goes dark so you can send these titles out without regret.
