The lights are on
With the breakout success of Far Cry 3 and its spin-off Blood Dragon, it should be no surprise that Far Cry 4 is in the works. According to an Ubisoft executive, we'll be hearing about the game sooner rather than later.
In an interview with Gamespot, Ubisoft senior vice president of marketing and sales Tony Key says, "We're totally psyched from [Far Cry 3]. It's a great brand, and now it's got the recognition it deserves, so we're clearly going to make another one: more on that soon."
Key went on to talk about the popularity of open world games, something that, with Assassin's Creed and Far Cry in its lineup, Ubisoft certainly knows something about.
Far Cry 3 was one of the best reviewed games of 2012, and recently Ubisoft has boasted about Blood Dragon's strong sales.
Our Take:Ubisoft sticks with what works. If a series proves itself in quality and (especially) sales, you're likely going to see yearly product released. I know gamers sometime complain about too many sequels, but I don't necessarily think that its sequels they have a problem with - it's uninspired sequels. As long as Ubisoft keeps pushing the series forward (as it did with Far Cry 3) or into interesting new directions (as it did with Blood Dragon), I'm glad they are making more of a good thing. However, there's always the risk of burning out a franchise, as I believe we are starting to see with Assassin's Creed's annual releases.

I still need to finish up FarCry 3, I remember making it to the second island and thats the last time I played it. Great game though and one of my personal favorite shooters in a while. More games for a franchise is good as long as they get better each time. And I love the releases of the Assassins Creed franchise, they always make the next better then before and I loved and own every single game. I am really stoked for Black Flag.
I find it entertaining that a very high percentage of people that complain about annual releases still go buy them as soon as they come out. I agree a game shouldn't be rushed, however if we go back and look at the AC series and the coverage on them we see that each game was in the works for about three years or so.
It's barely even been a year and they already a sequel announced, I'm not sure many people were asking for a sequel to this game.
Please add dinosaurs and Far Cry 4 will be the best game ever made!
Please don't rush it. I really enjoyed the last one, except for the amount of bros that was in the game. Other than that, go for it!
I loved Far Cry 3, liked Far Cry 2, never played Far Cry 1. I stopped playing AC1, loved AC2, stopped playing AC Brotherhood, and didn't even bother with AC Revelations or AC3. Please keep some time in between the Far Cry games, and make them because you have an interesting concept, not because you made money on an interesting concept and want to cash in again on its name.
Another promising franchise to be milked tremendously by Ubisoft for yearly releases severely diminishing it's quality. What a waste of talent.
I need to pick up a copy of Far Cry 3 sometime...
Although I loved Blood Dragon, I hope Far Cry 4 plays more closely to the traditional Far Cry experience. I'd like to see as much of jump between FC3 and FC4 as we saw between FC2 and the third game. FC3 was a refinement of the mechanics we saw in FC2...I say bring them back and add a slew of new gameplay options.
But I wouldn't mind seeing a change in scenery, namely, moving from the classic tropical/jungle setting to a more diverse environments. Sure, FC3 added more mountainous locations to shake it up a bit, but some snowy, urban, etc., terrains could prove interesting.
I loved Far Cry 3 to death and I really want to see Far Cry 4 soon but after that let the series rest for a few years.
As long as they bring the gameplay and characters but ditch the idiotic, overbearing story, I'll look forward to FC4.
enough with the farcry
I would play an annually released game any day over a freemium /title. I mean take for a example the MechWarrior/MechAssault games. I love MechWarrior and MechAssault(Day One Studios). But I recently tried to play MechWarrior Online. This free to play is BS. In order to take full advantage of the game you have to spend at least $40. And even after paying that type of money how is this gameplay going to stand up to something like Titanfall which is going to revolutionize the genre. The same thing goes for March of War. Looks like a really cool turn base stategy game but there is no way in Hell you can play it without spending $30 on it. I am sorry to say this but I hope all free to play games fail its just a stupid concept.
Can't say that I'm surprised (or disappointed).
If they make far cry a regular title i just hope they dont try to milk it until no one buys it anymore. and as much as i loved fc3 i hope in fc4 they take some tips from fc2 specifically the way the friends worked they actually affected the game the missions they didnt just give them out should expand on that
Awesome. Loved all of the FC's so far. Can't wait for FC4!
