The lights are on
With the breakout success of Far Cry 3 and its spin-off Blood Dragon, it should be no surprise that Far Cry 4 is in the works. According to an Ubisoft executive, we'll be hearing about the game sooner rather than later.
In an interview with Gamespot, Ubisoft senior vice president of marketing and sales Tony Key says, "We're totally psyched from [Far Cry 3]. It's a great brand, and now it's got the recognition it deserves, so we're clearly going to make another one: more on that soon."
Key went on to talk about the popularity of open world games, something that, with Assassin's Creed and Far Cry in its lineup, Ubisoft certainly knows something about.
Far Cry 3 was one of the best reviewed games of 2012, and recently Ubisoft has boasted about Blood Dragon's strong sales.
Our Take:Ubisoft sticks with what works. If a series proves itself in quality and (especially) sales, you're likely going to see yearly product released. I know gamers sometime complain about too many sequels, but I don't necessarily think that its sequels they have a problem with - it's uninspired sequels. As long as Ubisoft keeps pushing the series forward (as it did with Far Cry 3) or into interesting new directions (as it did with Blood Dragon), I'm glad they are making more of a good thing. However, there's always the risk of burning out a franchise, as I believe we are starting to see with Assassin's Creed's annual releases.

As long as it as good or better then FC3,i am all for FC4.
always could use some more far cry
odd. ubisoft is going to yearly releases.
I hope they mix a bit more of 2 into 3's formula for this. Things like the in game map and clear hud.
Far Cry 3 was the most popular? Man, I thought FC2 was since my friends got it when it came out. I thought it was really good.
I hope I see a flash sale for Blood Dragon on Steam this week.
I just hope it's more like Far Cry 2 and less like 3. 3 had too much weird crap.
I agree with your take. I like sequels. Just not the half-Assed kind. Either way, I'm excited to see what FC4 will be.
So far it's been island, africa, island, 80s camp paradise, ... i wonder what it'll be next? Give us something crazy out there ubisoft, i liked blood dragon the most
I want Far Cry 4 to be Blood Dragon 2
Another Ubisoft franchise that people will be burnt out on soon? Yes please.
Hopefully this strategy that Activision, EA and Ubisoft are taking up will backfire. Treading in safe territory is one thing, but too much too soon is also another.
Sounds pretty freaking amazing!!!
Improve the 'good' characters (make them more respectable), and the story, as well as weapon customization, 'cause after you get it all, you're stuck with powerful enough weapons that make it so there's no point in exploring your arsenal, it's just upgrading and that's, that.
The main quests were interesting enough, but I think the side missions were kind of dull. As I went through three, and unlocking my abilities, it made it feel somewhat fresh through and kept it that way until I beat it; once I beat it and had done everything in it, I unfortunately found no motivation to play any more of it.
I'd give the replay value on the GameInformer scale a 'moderately low'. I also felt they pushed Vaas as a villain too much when taking into account how little presence he has compared to what I expected, when they could have used him more than someone like Buck.
please for the love of jebus STOP with the awful console style menus and GRATUITOUS levels of tutorial, and bad level design. like seriously a PC game coming out in 2012 that doesn't have a quicksave/quickload system, and instead forces you to relive most of a mission in it's entirety over and over.. the game had some serious design issues, i barely got through it to be honest, the ending was worth it but jesus i should NOT be getting tutorial tips while 12 hours into the game, i should NOT be getting interrupted while playing for tutorial or hint crap and i should have an option to turn that crap off. /end rant. i did actually like FC3 as a game, it just held your hand WAY too much and had far too many canned animations
"Uninspired sequels" was the key phrase.
