The Last of Us is doing well for for Sony, quickly setting records as the fastest selling game on the PlayStation 3 for 2013, and fastest selling new software title for the console.

Naughty Dog's "grim masterpiece" released on June 14 exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and has so far sold more than 3.4 million copies. Despite being an American game that takes place in the United States, The Last of Us has seen worldwide appeal, also selling well in Japan.

Our Take
It's always good to see a deserved game see success, especially one that didn't necessarily have everything going for it on paper. The Last of Us is a serious drama, and it's a completely new franchise appearing mere months before the release of the PlayStation 4. Starting new IPs at the end of console life cycles is dangerous, but the huge sales of the The Last of Us shows that quality can persevere. Now the question is, will there be a sequel?
