The lights are on
The video game industry is reeling from the news that Giant
Bomb co-founder Ryan Davis has died.
Giant Bomb announced
today that Davis passed away on July 3rd at the age of 34. A former editor
at GameSpot, Davis quit the company in 2007 shortly after the controversial
firing of Jeff Gerstmann. Gerstmann and Davis formed Giant Bomb in 2008, with
fellow ex-GameSpot editors Brad Shoemaker and Vinny Caravella joining them a
few months later. Alex Navarro, who also left GameSpot in the wake of Gerstmann's
firing, rejoined his former coworkers at Giant Bomb in 2010, completing the
core editorial team.
Giant Bomb is revered for its small and close-knit staff,
and fans have flocked
to Twitter to express their shock and condolences. Our deepest sympathies
and love go out to Davis' family and friends, and the entire Giant Bomb team.
Our TakeThe Game Informer staff is as shocked and saddened as everyone else by today's news. We're all Giant Bomb fans, and the editors here who knew Davis on a personal level have nothing but fond memories of their time with him. The outpouring of love and support from fans on social media sites is a testament to Davis' character; we hope the Giant Bomb team can find some solace in its community in the coming days.

Man so upset ,my condolences go out to Mr. Davis' family and friends.
I've heard and seen Ryan do things for hundreds of hours. And that he won't be there anymore is a huge bummer. Sad times over at GB.
Sleep Apnea is terrible :(
RIP Davis, you'll be remembered for eternity.
He will be sorely missed. My thoughts go out to his friends and family. the Bombcast will never be the same.
This is horrible, RIP Ryan. Thank you for the years of entertainment.
I really liked Ryan Davis on the quick looks and the live streams. Hell, I just watched him the other day on some of their E3 coverage. A great character, and gaming industry is lesser without him in it. RIP
Saw the news on my phone at work earlier this afternoon. Totally ruined my day. Tuesdays will never be the same.
R.I.P. Ryan. wish his family the best.
I've heard of Ryan Davis, but have never really read or listened to his stuff. My condolences none the less. Sounded like a nice guy.
Is it just me, or are several notable people in the gaming dying lately? First one of the leads on the Oculus Rift team, and now this.
34 years is way too young RIP Ryan
All the gorgeous wedding photos on Twitter just tore my day in half. RIP
He will be missed. My condolences go out to his family.

I don't know what to say to this news. This is terrible. I love Giant Bomb and Ryan Davis was amazing. Even though I didn't know him, I still watched him on their videos so much...this feels like someone close to me has died. I watched his entire playthrough of Chrono Trigger also. RIP
Wow. Never a good day when someone, anyone, passes on.
