The lights are on
The video game industry is reeling from the news that Giant
Bomb co-founder Ryan Davis has died.
Giant Bomb announced
today that Davis passed away on July 3rd at the age of 34. A former editor
at GameSpot, Davis quit the company in 2007 shortly after the controversial
firing of Jeff Gerstmann. Gerstmann and Davis formed Giant Bomb in 2008, with
fellow ex-GameSpot editors Brad Shoemaker and Vinny Caravella joining them a
few months later. Alex Navarro, who also left GameSpot in the wake of Gerstmann's
firing, rejoined his former coworkers at Giant Bomb in 2010, completing the
core editorial team.
Giant Bomb is revered for its small and close-knit staff,
and fans have flocked
to Twitter to express their shock and condolences. Our deepest sympathies
and love go out to Davis' family and friends, and the entire Giant Bomb team.
Our TakeThe Game Informer staff is as shocked and saddened as everyone else by today's news. We're all Giant Bomb fans, and the editors here who knew Davis on a personal level have nothing but fond memories of their time with him. The outpouring of love and support from fans on social media sites is a testament to Davis' character; we hope the Giant Bomb team can find some solace in its community in the coming days.

I actually have never heard of him before he died, when I read this I thought he was the one guy who was fired from Gamespot. Sad to hear, from what I have read he has had a big impact on gaming journalism.
Awww man, he was so young :(. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
Way too young. RIP.
i met him once, nice guy
RIP Ryan. I wish the best to your family and friends on this tragic day. I will always think back to those fond memories and funny moments you have imprinted in my head.
Fuuuuuuuck this is so horrible. This news hurts more than I would have thought it would. My heart goes out to all the Giant Bomb crew and all who knew Ryan.
I wondered if you guys would make an article. I loved Ryan, even though he was a complete a-hole to people, but in a funny way. It's sad that this happened right after he got married. I will miss listening to him on the Giant Bombcast's. I seriously feel like crying over here.
R.I.P. Ryan Davis. Giantbomb and the games industry will miss you.
Definitely was one of the best gaming journalist out there. Sad day in the gaming world. Hope his family the best.
This is bad but he is in a better place now............
Wow, that's incredibly sad to hear. :(
I went on giantbomb this morning to see if any new videos were posted and saw this. I have never teared up before over someone I didn't know or meet him, but hearing that infectious laugh of his on the weekly bombcasts and quick looks made me feel lie, he was a friend. He will be very missed gaming journalism lost an important person. My heart goes out to his family, friends giantbomb staff and members like I and his wife. This is too soon..
