The lights are on
GameStop has stopped taking store pre-orders for the PlayStation 4 due to high demand.
Late last month, GameTrailers published an internal GameStop memo telling employees that the company would be taking unlimited pre-orders for PS4 systems until further notice. Apparently that time has come. A spokesperson for GameStop has issued the following statement to us:
"Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4."
The spokesperson also stated that online reservations would be available "while supplies last," but since then GameStop's website has been updated to say that the console is currently sold out. Interested users can submit their email addresses to learn when reservations are available again.

Our TakeWhile the demand for PlayStation 4s is bad for gamers who haven't pre-ordered yet, it is certainly good news for Sony. The leaked memo from last month stated that Sony made the call for taking unlimited pre-orders, so clearly the company felt confident in its ability to provide a high volume of systems for launch. That the demand is even greater than the company anticipated is the best kind of problem Sony could hope for at this point, and one that Microsoft surely hopes to replicate.
Full Disclosure: Game Informer is owned by GameStop
i just switched my pre-order from best buy to gamestop in the nick of the time. i feel bad that they are not taking pre orders on gamestop anymore, but i think that best buy is still taking them.
Sony needs to just have there own retail stores all over the US
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't preordered mine's yet. :(
It is a trap. So that in the future everyone jumps on the pre-order train because they will be scared they didn't do it sooner. Also, I have to work those dreadful holiday last minute sales days. If a ps4 roles into the store I am snagging it.
That's truly great for Sony. They really have shown that they've learned from their past mistakes. However, I'll wait awhile before getting one just so that I can wait for more games to come out. Uncharted 4 bundle would be sweet!
I reserved my console the day after Sony's E3 conference my local Gamestop and I live in a small town. So I know I'm guaranteed to get it day one. Plus I've already put down 200 bucks on it so it's halfway paid off.
Is amazon still taking pre-orders?
I'm impressed Sony. Time to get back on top of the mountain again.
Phew! Preordered in time!
damn guess i'll have to wait a while.
There aren't too many games that I am really excited about for the ps4, but i am definitely interested in getting one so I'll probably end up waiting until after release to see how the system is. Props to Sony on their amazing new system and this great achievement.
I'm wondering too if this is just xbone marketing...
Well good...as I wasn't going to Pre-Order. As I may sit by and see the issues first. All the while catching up on the PS3 with games I couldn't play on the PS4 do to what people keep telling me is a BS reason.
Until I see some numbers (presale sales figures from this or another news agency) I am not going to say who is out preselling who. Where do people get this info that one is outselling another? Anyway I would love it if they both (xbone and ps4) sell out because that would indicate the videogame market wasnt waning but just waiting for the next batch of consoles. Even PC gamers like myself are happy about this due to our knowledge that most 3rd party games are developed for all systems and the weakest link, but with the new consoles the weakest link isn't so weak anymore. Also want to add I had my PS4 preordered on day 1 of E3. Was on the fence until DRM fiasco that coupled with Windows 8 flop ,decided me. This way I get all PS exlusives plus Titanfall is coming to PC! Yes I get the best of both worlds. Boooyaahh!
