The lights are on
In an interview with Gamereactor, Saints Row IV’s design director Scott Phillips spoke briefly about what we can expect from the Saints Row series moving forward.
When Volition created Saints Row: The Third, the designers had to spend resources on making a new engine. According to Phillips, because they’re re-using that tech (with improvements) for Saints Row IV, the team has more time to outshine its already bizarre scenarios.
But how do you top being a super-powered president? Maybe you don’t.
“We’re definitely considering Saints Row IV the end of that saga of this character and the Saints as they are,” Phillips said. “So if there’s any more future Saints Rows – which you know we always hope there will be, we hope there are fans for future games like that – they will probably continue in a different direction.”

Saints Row IV releases on August 20.
Our TakePhillips’ comment could mean anything. Maybe the hypothetical Saints Row V would ditch the over-the-top tone in favor of something more serious. Maybe the open-world environment could be swapped for one more conducive to linear play. We'll have to wait to find out for sure, but I hope Volition doesn't leave its exaggerated brand of comedy behind. We already have a Grand Theft Auto.
As long as the games are good, that's what matters.
I'm interested in seeing some futurist open world games similar to Nomad Soul. Maybe remake the Urban Chaos game as that was good fun to play.
I would like to see more bigger gang war in these future Saints Row games, I didn't feel Saints Row 3 pushed the limits on much and how big and epic battles could be, I believe that's where it's lacking a bit.
Dear god... A small smidgen of hope that I'll be getting Saints Row games like Saints Row and Saints Row 2 sometime in the future.
I think they're just tired of being blocked in Australia and Germany. they're going to make it lighter instead of crazier.
Id be happy if the series ended here. heck I thought the third had a good ending.
Well, it's best to go out with a bang. Looks like SR4 is on the right track.
Maybe they will go all super hero with no gun play. Or maybe they will make a better third person shooter.
I liked 3 and 4 looks good but I hope this new direction is more in the style of 1 and 2.
They're turning into Activision.
I love that Saints Row is absolutely balls to the wall bat s*** crazy. GTA is already our serious open world love child. Give me my superpowers & my dragons & I'll be a happy man.
If Saints Row returns to something similar to SR2 in terms of personality, then I would be all over that. That game was a decent blend of seriousness and absurdity. I liked SR3 and all, but if it was not for it seeming like a rushed game to me, the first half off it being tutorials and side missions, then maybe I would like it a whole lot more. I am fine with the series decent into insanity and all, but if SR4 turns out similar to SR3, feeling rushed that is, maybe they do need a different brand of thinking for the series.
Hmm...interesting...I wonder what they would change up...
hopefully back to the old gangster ways
Our ttake is spot on
honestly they could go back to the style of the first one...or better yet the second one!
