Atlus Parent Company Registers Persona 5 Domain

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 07, 2013 at 10:55 AM

The domain name Persona5.jp was recently registered by Index Corporation, the parent company of Atlus. It is by no means a confirmation of Persona 5, but it could mean the developer is working on a new Persona title, which has been rumored.

The domain was registered on June 25 according to the listing on whois.net.

Index Corporation recently filed for bankruptcy and is being investigated for fraud. There haven't been any updates regarding this, but time frames of Persona5.jp being registered and the news of Index Corporation's troubles seem to hint that the filing occurred while it was aware of the upcoming investigation.

Our Take
After the success of Persona 4 Golden and Persona 4 Arena, Persona 5 seems like a sure thing. Index could be registering the domain as a precautionary measure against digital squatters, but the time seems right for a brand new Persona. Maybe it could be a PlayStation 4 exclusive? Or after Golden, maybe it will be a Vita exclusive. It worked for Dragon Quest IX. That game was a numbered release for a major RPG series, and it was exclusive to a handheld system. It's also worth noting that Atlus' next game, Shin Megami Tensei 4, is a 3DS exclusive. The company is no stranger to releasing major RPGs exclusively on a handheld.
