Holiday Warrior 7/3/13

by Brian Albert on Jul 03, 2013 at 02:00 PM

For the extended Fourth of July weekend, the Game Informer crew is going to kill fungus zombies, eat unhealthy food, and escape into the wilderness.

Jeff Marchiafava: With The Last of Us finally in the rearview mirror (though I won’t be forgetting its remarkable story and gameplay anytime soon), I have moved onto another post-apocalyptic zombie game, State of Decay. The transition between the two games hasn’t been the easiest; State of Decay lacks polish in virtually every area that matters, but I still love the core concepts. When I’m not trying to survive the zombie Armageddon, I’ll be away from the television, grilling food and enjoying the weather – it is the Fourth of July weekend after all.

Kyle Hilliard: I’ll be heading to a lake with my family to give my daughter her first taste of a body of water larger than a bathtub. Other than that, I will be focusing all of my gaming attention on Picross e, now that I’ve finished The Last of Us.

Mike Futter: I am bound and determined to finish up The Last of Us before I depart into the Internet-free wilderness for a little while. I'll be taking my portable devices with me and, while I haven't decided exactly what I'll be playing yet, top contenders include finishing Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Hotline Miami, Project X Zone, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, 999, and (finally) starting Persona 4 Golden. I'll also be playing Magic: the Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 and checking out Might and Magic: Duel of Champions.

Ben Hanson: This weekend I'm going to take a break from The Last of Us and State of Decay and enjoy the great outdoors. And by that I mean playing Animal Crossing in the shade. I might play some more Scurvy Scallywags on my iPhone or iPad to shake things up, but I think I will be more consumed by swimming and playing ping pong or whatever. Enjoy your Fourth of July!

Ben Reeves: I'll be wining and dining my life away this weekend. Wining on fine Mountain Dew, and dining on the finest frozen pizza money can buy. After I've prepped myself for a mid-life heart attack, I'll be playing through the new Deadpool game. The explosions I'm most concerned about this weekend, are the ones that will be happening on my TV screen. I also started a playthrough of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, which I'd like to finish up, and my hunger for The Last of Us hasn't subsided after beating it, so I might start up a new game+.

Matt Kato: I'm excited to jump into The Walking Dead: 400 Days even though I'm not much of a DLC guy. I'm very curious how the episodic nature of the DLC's five characters comes across and that it ties with the second season. I've also been going through The Last of Us and loving it, so a great deal of my time will be consumed with that. I find myself going through times in the that game where I'm more looking forward to what's next rather than the area I'm in, but I haven't found an area yet where I'm just plain bored. That's not insignificant for a game its size.

Kim Wallace: My goal is to finally complete The Last of Us. Every week someone finishes and tells me how much they need to discuss the ending with me. So now I’m set on making it happen. Other than that, I’m working on some games for review and going to veg out. I need my beauty sleep.
