MechWarrior Online developer Piranha Games released some fun statistics about the damage its players have caused in the open beta so far.

Since the beta began last October, more than one million users have spent 9.6 million hours destroying nearly 47 million mechs. This works out to be about 3 billion tons of scrap, or nearly 8,400 Empire State Buildings.

If you somehow piled those mechs into an enormous tower of junk, they’d reach to the moon and back over 1,200 times. The total cost of this wreckage is over 18.3 billion C-bills. However, that’s nothing compared to the 10.1 trillion C-bills players have earned overall.

12.6 billion missiles have been fired, and in the last month alone, over 2.4 billion lasers were fired. It sounds destructive, but as Piranha Games points out, that’s enough energy to power 87 million homes for a month. Perhaps we’ve found a new alternative to solar power.

If you’ve been enjoying the MechWarrior Online open beta, you won’t have to wait much longer to check out the full product. The free-to-play game launches on September 17.

Our Take
The new Man of Steel movie features some ridiculous destruction, but I think MechWarrior Online might take the trophy. As for the release date, I’m glad to see it’s soon so I can finally hop in. I try not to devote too much time to betas where things are always in flux, especially in a competitive shooter.
