The lights are on
At E3 2013, Microsoft announced a new program that would deliver two free games per month to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Two of the titles mentioned were Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3. Today, the first title that is officially part of the program (Fable III was available last month) is all yours.
Defense Grid: The Awakening is now free for Xbox Live Gold members (regularly 800 Microsoft points). You can download Defense Grid now for free from Xbox.com or your Xbox 360 dashboard. Move quickly, though. You'll need to claim your game (but not necessarily download it) before July 15.
The good news is that even if you delete the game or drop your Gold membership, you'll continue to have access to these free titles.

Our TakeNo, this is not Assassin's Creed 2 or Halo 3, and I've heard from many of you that you're disappointed. I re-watched the relevant part of Microsoft's E3 press conference last night and confirmed that those titles were only mentioned as part of the program. No commitment was made that they'd be the first two. Either way, this isn't the most impressive start for Games with Gold, especially as PlayStation Plus is offering up Battlefield 3 for free tomorrow.

Naturally, all of these games will be ones I already have- as they are so far.
Oh yippee. An XBLA game. I've never played the Assassin's Creed series and was looking forward to getting my feet wet. Fable III was a cool thing to give me for free.
Makes me wish I HAD a PS3.
I just started playing Defense Grid and it's actually pretty awesome. I wish everyone would shut up about it being an XBLA game. Just because it's a XBLA doesn't mean it's crappy. Besides, Microsoft is giving the game out for keeps, so I'd say it's a pretty sweet deal as long as they keep giving out games that are good.
I think Microsoft made a bad choice with this one. Playstation Plus hands out free games all the time, so you'd think Microsoft would try to match their level of quality. Especially with Plus handing out BF3 soon, I'm confused as to why Microsoft would give out a $10 XBLA game. I think Microsoft needs to try a lot harder if they want to compete with Sony next generation.
Its fun, but nothing to right home about
I already own ACII, Halo 3 and Fable 3 but Defense grid was new to me. I downloaded that and it was pretty fun, though...
Downloaded it a couple hours ago. Actually a quite fun game. It's free, no complaints!
Free is free. Count me in!
Whats the Big deal??? giving AAA, or even AA games a free don't mean much, Cause most True gamers Already bought them for $65 dollars....
