Nintendo Fails To Acquire WiiU.com
In February, Nintendo attempted to take WiiU.com away from someone who was squatting on the domain by filing a complaint. The World Intellectual Property Organization denied Nintendo's claim, and WiiU.com still belongs to the original owner. The WIPO did not cite a specific reason why the filing was denied.
The WiiU.com domain was registered well before even the Wii was announced back in 2004. Currently the site redirects to a number of related and unrelated Wii U links.
Fusible noticed the WIPO's denial, and points out that the domain was up for auction only a few days before Nintendo filed its complaint. Nintendo could have bought the domain then for a reasonable price, but now its unclear if Nintendo will be able to get the domain name without having to negotiate directly with the current owner.
