The lights are on
When the PlayStation 4 is released this fall, many of us will open the box, plug it in, tweet about it, and start playing oblivious to everything that has gone into making the system reality. Yesterday at Gamelab 2013 in Barcelona, Spain, PlayStation 4 system architect Mark Cerny opened up about his work on bringing the PlayStation 4 to market.
In the approximately 45-minute talk, Cerny (who is currently working on Knack for PlayStation 4) weaves together his personal history with the PlayStation brand with details about how software and hardware teams have evolved the consoles from PlayStation 1 through present day.
One of the big changes in the PlayStation 4 is the shift from Cell processor to x86 architecture. The philosophy behind the console, as discussed by Cerny, is a shift away from exotica to more familiar, accessible hardware.
Listening to Cerny talk about his history working with Naughty Dog and Insomniac, becoming one of the first Americans involved in the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 development, and his longtime relationship with president of Sony Worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida.
Carve out some time to learn about how one branch of the next generation came into existence.

Wow! As a gamer I feel kind of ashamed that I did not know who Mark Cerny was until recently, what an awesome and influential career he's had (and still does) in video games. Sony is lucky to have him. Thank you GI for posting this.
1 to 2 months to triangle baby! Yeah!
Very inspirational speech by Mark Cerney, what a career! This guy is a genius, period. It's funny to see that Sony could potentially achieve 1088 GB/sec architecture instead of today's 176 GB/sec. It sounds scary.
Wow i gotta say his road to ps4 is pretty inspiring, a must watch for Gamers, Programmers and Nerds.
Man, mark cerny is one of my favorite execs/devs/hardware dudes ever, glad sony is using him as muchas they are
Holy hell! 47 minutes. Sorry Cerny, I love me some Sony Playstation but no thank you! I have some TLOU multiplayer to play!
