The lights are on
Sony is dipping its toe into alchemical waters. After turning some PlayStation 3 consoles in bricks with update version 4.45, it's found a way to turn them back into fully functioning game machines with version 4.46.
The new firmware is available today, and for those users that didn't experience a problem last week, it's business as usual. If you did run into a problem and haven't been able to use your PlayStation 3, you'll need to load the firmware onto a USB drive and put the system in safe mode to get it back in working order.
The full details are available on the PlayStation Support page.

This personally didn't happen to me but I can only imagine how irritating that was. At-least this new update fixes the problem. (Well Hopefully lol) Thirstyyy Thursday I see you
Nice to see it fixed.
Coolness. I guess it's time to update my PS3.
Didn't happen to me. Glad it's fixed
Good to see that they worked out how to fix it, and that they're doing it
Good unbricking consoles. this is a new one.
Yay! ... Haven't turned my ps3 on in a long time. Looks like I will, and see what happens.
No issues here.. not complaining though. PS4 CAN'T WAIT! (Bart Scott voice)
I'll just stick with whatever version i've had for the past couple of months.
Nice to know that the consoles that got bricked won't be useless with this update.
Very glad to see the bricked consoles are salvageable. Hardware is hardware. Things happen and good for Sony for not only getting a quick solution but for ensuring the consoles can get un-bricked without shipping them out for repairs.
Glad they are managing to help unlock some that were all locked up.
This update worked for me. My PS3 can now boot up again. I can finally continue playing The Last Of Us.
I'm glad they were able to get a fix out fast. It didn't happen to me personally, but I feel for all the gamers it did happen to.
