The lights are on
This week has seen a number of stories from a variety of outlets on the state of headsets and chat on the Xbox One. Yesterday, we received further confirmation from Microsoft that only devices specifically designed for the Xbox One would be supported.
Today, Microsoft has provided us with more detail about why existing headsets are currently incompatible. There's also hope that existing devices may end up working after all (with help).
"The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console," a Microsoft representative told us. "This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input. Xbox plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio.”
That last part should make consumers very happy, especially if they've already invested hundreds in a premium personal audio solution. In short: there is hope, audiophiles.

M$ really needs to get its act together. So many mixed messages.
Hope? Maybe a fool's hope, but it would be really stupid to hope for anything when corporate values are at the fore. The released statements are meaningless. Expect nothing to be different.
Keep desperately plug away those holes you put in your own sinking ship Microsoft. I'm not sure how you imagine you'll use all that duct tape and silly putty to turn your mess of a console into everything you saw PS4 doing, but I commend you for trying.
I am very happy to hear that they will probably at least let us use our old headsets. Microsoft is definitely making things a lot better, so I honestly don't know which console I want now. Decisions!
I love how MS tries to do something profitable for them, realize that consumers hate the issue, then be really ambiguous with what they actually do making consumers even more frustrated that they don't just be honest from the start, then they try to find a new solution as they beat around the bush, then they try to appease the consumers because their first way to make profits was going to lose money.
with help($) ?
Just makes me think that the guys in suits should just STOP talking. Let the Devs explain all this stuff the first time, then it won't look like they are backtracking every 5 minutes. Smh.
I LOVE YOU XB1!!!
