The lights are on
Ubisoft's gonzo Far Cry standalone spinoff has posted strong sales so far, topping the 500,000 mark.
In an interview with Games Industry International, Ubisoft head Yves Guillemot said that the company's digital-only products have been a strong area of growth. In particular, he cited Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon as having sold over 500,000 downloads in two months. Guillemot also said that the game caused an increase in sales of the original Far Cry 3. This success will likely cause Ubisoft to look into creating more standalone spinoff titles like Blood Dragon based on its successful franchises in the future.
The success of Blood Dragon shouldn't be a surprise, as its one of the year's most entertaining games.

I wonder if this number includes all the people who got the game coupon when buying new AMD GPUs.
I really hope this pushes them to make a full fledged Far Cry Blood Dragon game. 60 dollar retail game I can sink 20 hours into.
The game is awesome!
I'm glad it has been so successful.
Half a mill is a ridiculous amount of sales for something that was cheap and quick to produce. Most of the game is just re-skins, and while we all love Michael Biehn (if you don't, stay the hell away from me, cos I'll **** you ****-bag ***** in ***** skyscraper with a tomahawk) he probably didn't cost that much, either.
Coupled with the non-existent ad budget and no shipping costs, and I'd say that everything after the first 150k is pure profit for Ubi.
i actually enjoyed this more then the oringinal game
Still need to try this. And I know its a long ways off but Far Cry 4 is going to be amazing.
YES! This game deserves even more copies sold. Hands down one of the best DLC/Expansion I've played in my life.
Congratulations to them.
Love my job, since I've been bringing in $82h… I sit at home, music playing while I work in front of my new iMac that I got now that I'm making it online. (Home more information)
I just hope it leads them to take more risks and maybe show some other Developers/Publishers that stuff like this makes money. I hope it doesn't just turn into a cash grab at the end though if everybody starts doing this.
I loved this game! Buy it now if you have not played it.
still need to beat this ... what i played of it was great but i got out of the mood for shooters for the time being
Magic in a bottle. Right people, right time, right price, right concept........
Magic in a bottle, it can't be like this every time. Blood Dragon worked out great and was allot of fun to play. I don't want every developer trying to do this with every game just cause it is the cool thing to do now.
I'm getting this on summer sale :)
I downloaded this and never got into it, seems like Ubisoft hit a home run yet again.
