The lights are on
This week has seen a number of stories from a variety of outlets on the state of headsets and chat on the Xbox One. Yesterday, we received further confirmation from Microsoft that only devices specifically designed for the Xbox One would be supported.
Today, Microsoft has provided us with more detail about why existing headsets are currently incompatible. There's also hope that existing devices may end up working after all (with help).
"The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console," a Microsoft representative told us. "This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input. Xbox plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio.”
That last part should make consumers very happy, especially if they've already invested hundreds in a premium personal audio solution. In short: there is hope, audiophiles.
So it sounds like, regardless, my wireless mic won't work with X1.
but the real question is...will my $300 halo 4 warheads work with the XB1 since they are completely wireless? :/
Please work, I got a $250 headset for my 360 in december and I dont want to have to buy a new one.
i feel bad for the people who got nw exspensive headsets
I see this as at least promising. MS recognized their missteps and seem to be listening and responding a little more.
whoever is in charge of marketing and promoting XB1 is failing bad. These issues should of been addressed at least 6 months to a year ago. Now they seem like there playing catch up on all the rumors and concerns of the gaming public.
I already planned on buying the Xone headset Turtle Beach is making so no worries here.
They may have redesigned the entire controller that doesn't mean they couldn't add a simple headphone jack. THey just want to force people from using the products they already own and make people only buy products with the MS brand on it.
This company needs to get their head out their ass and stop hating the consumers. They just keeping digging their grave even deeper.
Next year, MS has the worst company of the year vote from me.
