The lights are on
Sony is dipping its toe into alchemical waters. After turning some PlayStation 3 consoles in bricks with update version 4.45, it's found a way to turn them back into fully functioning game machines with version 4.46.
The new firmware is available today, and for those users that didn't experience a problem last week, it's business as usual. If you did run into a problem and haven't been able to use your PlayStation 3, you'll need to load the firmware onto a USB drive and put the system in safe mode to get it back in working order.
The full details are available on the PlayStation Support page.

I never even bothered turning my PS3 on, since I first heard about this. At least I don't have to worry about any problems now. Glad they come up with a fix at a reasonable time.
Thank god when I downloaded this I didn't get bricked, I would have been PISSED!!
didn't occur during last update. but this is nice, way to go sony!
A response about the update taking 2 hours: I have 15 down and 2 up. For me the update took 15mins to download and a fraction of the time to install. I guess it really just depends on your connection.
Happy to hear all the PS3 owners can finally play again. I was about to check for an update when I heard the news. I really hope Sony knows they can't afford to have problems like this come November. They need to realize that Microsoft retraced it's previous plans with their new console. Many people saw Microsoft's 360 superior to Sony's PS3 because of online services. I'm confident Sony has realized this and will make huge improvements spanning throughout all online aspects of the PS4. I think we can all agree that Sony felt like they were in control right after E3 and really went for Microsoft's throat, but after Microsoft's changes Sony clearly backed off.
So happy I didn't check for an update. I'd have been super ticked off if I couldn't play the Last of Us.
i just came here before even downloading the new update. i fortunately saw the last article in time, so i knew to check here first. thank you GI!
I have NOT seen or had any problems with my PS3 in the last weeks.
I have to say, though this kind of thing makes me a little nervous about a PS4, being inconvenienced for a week is nothing compared to spending the $100 and waiting a month to get my 360 back from the RRoD.
Let's hope the new consoles just work, the way consoles used to (whoever heard of a bricked SNES or Genesis?)
Didn't happen to mine.
didnt effect me so im all good lol
I have had ZERO problems with my ps3 for the past 4 years. (Whole ownership period)
I've already used mine to help build a fence. Just need the PS4 brick to finish it off.
that's good to hear for PS3 owners
It's good that Sony is still doing everything possible for the PS3 while they work on the PS4. It shows that the console makers do care for their consumers nowadays, and it warms my heart.
Glad this didn't happen to me.
Well this is GREAT news! Now I don't have to watch that video on turning your PS3 into a grill. Lol!
