The lights are on
Update: The official Age of Empires Facebook page has offered a small update on the details of the free to play Age of Empires planned for iOS and Android devices.
It doesn't make clear what the game is, or when we will see it, but it makes a pretty bold promise about the game:
"While the Klab Age of Empires game is still early in development, our intentions are to leverage the strength of mobile platforms (including Windows Phone 8 ) as well as Klab’s strengths in that space. This will not be a port of an existing AOE game, but a new genre of strategy game appropriate to the platform and the audience."

Microsoft is getting more and more comfortable with competing mobile devices and is partnering with Japanese game developer Klab Inc. to bring games like Age of Empires to iOS and Android. The partnership will bring more Microsoft games to iOS and Android devices.
This isn't the first time Microsoft games will appear on non-Microsoft mobile devices. Games like Kinectimals, Ms. 'Splosion Man, and Wordament, which lets you unlock Xbox Live Achievements, are all available on devices other than the Windows Phone.
Microsoft offered a statement to Polygon detailing Age of Empires for iOS and Android devices:
"Today, KLab Inc. announced a licensing agreement with Microsoft Corp. to develop a mobile version of Microsoft Studio's Age of Empires franchise, which will be initially developed in English for iOS and Android and launched globally, with plans to release the game in other languages and on Windows Phone in the future. Some reports included incorrect information about additional Xbox Live-based games on iOS and Android but there are no further announcements beyond Age of Empires at this time."

I see ads for this everywhere and I've never actually played it. But I've always been interested in it. I'll keep my eye on this.
This is a very good thing
When is the date of release!?
AoE is pretty fun.
I always wanted to play AoE but never got around to it. I'm definitely getting this!
AoE on the go. well this is nice!
If it's free I will check it out. I always like my AoE.
This is awesome, I've played it through steam a little bit and its really fun, I don't really ever have time to play it thought cuz I'm playing other games, now ill be able to play it on the road!
Is it just me or the statement "The partnership will bring more Microsoft games to iOS and Android devices" is bit redundant after saying "...to bring games like Age of Empires to iOS and Android".
But still no Halo 3 to PC.
I am going to beat this dead horse until it is nothing but a mound of grass -- do you hear me Microsoft? A MOUND OF GRASS! THE BONES WILL BE TURNED TO DUST FROM HOW MANY TIMES I HIT THEM!
Damn. I love AoE so much, it really is sad to see it go from a game everyone loved to an IoS game. Almost as sad as Deus Ex on the phone
Given the popularity of the Kingdom Rush games, I bet it's a tower defense game!
