The lights are on
Nintendo undeniably has the richest stable of first-party franchises in the contemporary console landscape. Recently, our own Ben Reeves suggested that Big N give hungry gamers a new Metroid. Samus Aran isn't the only Nintendo star being neglected. Captain Falcon needs some love, too.
In an interview with IGN, famed designer Shigeru Miyamoto tempered expectations for a return to the futuristic tracks of F-Zero. "I think where I struggle is that I don’t really have a good idea for what’s new that we could bring to F-Zero that would really turn it into a great game again," he told interviewer Rich George.
For those that are absolutely craving hovercraft racing though, Mario Kart 8 for Wii U will introduce anti-gravity and wild new tracks. Miyamoto had more to say about Nintendo's approach to its franchises and balancing great ideas with limited resources. Be sure to read the entire interview on IGN for the details.

Aww, that's kind of sad. I honestly don't really need anything new new with another F-Zero. I would just like the typical F-Zero action to come back soon!
How hard could it be? There's been a decade of advances since the last game. It's been long enough that you really don't need sweeping changes to sell a game. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate an HD F-Zero.
I'd love a new F-Zero game, even if it was the same mechanics as X. Just add better graphics to it and it'll be fine.
Show ya moves...
Should just read Miyamoto doesn't have any new ideas. All Nintendo ever do is release sequel upon sequel. The NES started with Super Mario Bros. and whats on Wii-U? 4 PLAYER Super Mario Bros. No wonder they are dying. Aged hardware and the same recycled games :-(
talk to peter molyneux, he'll give you like 5 great ideas in 20 seconds.
Give the series online functionality, allow players to build up their machine from nothing. Give each car a rating based on the quality of parts, so you only race with similarly upgraded vehicles - in a general sense, not exact clones - and let players show off their machine in a player card. As for actual new game play ideas, look at what makes the series unique, speed, and dial it up or put a spin on it. New tracks with hazards and creative layouts should be more than enough to bring this series into the light again, especially in HD.
So let someone else at Nintendo propose some new ideas for F-Zero. I feel like Miyamoto is Nintendo's biggest strength but I've also heard a lot about how he can be a bit of a road block for new ideas because they aren't "perfect" concepts.
It's a shame they probably will never make another F-Zero for wii u. I would be happy with an HD remake of the older F-Zero games. If they do ever make a remake though,I would like to see a little less racing and a little more bounty hunter. They better put Falcon in the new smashbros.
I think we might as well accept the fact that many of Nintendo's classic characters are designated only as fighters in smash brothers. Nintendo continues to sit, obliviously, on top of a mountain of money wondering how it can make some money...
New tracks, interesting racers, further customization of vehicles, what more do you need? I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it had just these things.
What an unfortunate way to relay information. The guy is a genius and the headline is about something he currently can't or doesn't want to do.
I get there are fans of the series out there that want some news but only on the internet is what's NOT happening news. It makes the 24 TV news cycle look admirable by comparison sometimes.
Who cares? Make a remake like they did with Zelda Windwaker. Don't need new ideas, just make new tracks and updated graphics.
