The lights are on
The mostly forgotten Steel Diver 3DS launch title is coming back, and this time it's going to be free.
Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that Steel Diver is getting a free-to-play entry to IGN. Nintendo had previously revealed that it was investigating the free-to-play model in a recent investor and analyst presentation. At the time, it didn't reveal what franchise was going to be used, but it did assure Nintendo fans that it wouldn't be a high-profile franchise like Mario.
The new free-to-play Steel Diver will be an all new game. Miyamoto told IGN, "There is something we’re doing with the Steel Diver idea that I think is going to open things up with that game... It’s going to be very fun. We’re exploring from a perspective of where we can take that from a multiplayer standpoint - it's going to have this four-player battle mode that I think is going to be very interesting."
Miyamoto did not reveal any other details but said that he was hoping to show something soon. For more on Steel Diver, you can check out our review of the 3DS game.

Wow, I completely forgot about this game. I wonder if this free-to-play version will be for Wii U or 3DS?
I'm glad they're expanding and trying new things.
Well, if it's free and on the 3DS, then I will definitely be trying it.
It'll probably be for Wii U.
glad its a lesser known franchise, and not something more iconic. Gives them more room to experiment without lots of backlash. I'm interested to see how it goes. not a fan of FTP, but maybe Nintendo can pull it off
This could actually be really awesome, I look forward to hearing more about it.
okay...?
Really? There's no catch? No limited or paid version? Nintendo might be getting cooler... :)
Sweet!
Well, 'Free' and '3DS' are both good on their own, so lets see how they do together.
Interesting to see Nintendo trying out the F2P model.
