The lights are on
Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai says that 3DS and Wii U players won’t be able to face off in Nintendo’s upcoming brawler.
Sakurai told Joystiq that because of the differently laid out stages in the two versions, cross-platform play is impossible. However, you can take characters that you’ve customized (in some fashion, which he did not elaborate on) from the 3DS version and import them somehow to the Wii U.
Super Smash Bros. comes out next year on Wii U and 3DS. For more on the title, check out Sakurai’s own video preview of some of the new characters.
That's a real bummer, looks like I won't have a reason to pick up a 3DS copy.
I'm glad they chose this.
What a missed opportunity.
Characters that you've customized?!?!?! What's this Nintendo?!?
Okay fine, iam okay with that. The customisable characters on the other hand..what are you planning Nintendo?
MOTHER F**KING MEGAMAN MOTHERF**KERS!!!!!!
WE HERE AT TORGUE AGREE THAT THIS F**KING AWESOME!!!!
GOOD!!! That means that the Wii U version won't be held back from looking the absolute best it can. I'm sure if it had 3DS crossplay, the graphics on Wii U would suffer a blow and would just look like an HD version of a 3DS game just like Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
Thats seems natural, considering how different the two games are.
