The lights are on
Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai says that 3DS and Wii U players won’t be able to face off in Nintendo’s upcoming brawler.
Sakurai told Joystiq that because of the differently laid out stages in the two versions, cross-platform play is impossible. However, you can take characters that you’ve customized (in some fashion, which he did not elaborate on) from the 3DS version and import them somehow to the Wii U.
Super Smash Bros. comes out next year on Wii U and 3DS. For more on the title, check out Sakurai’s own video preview of some of the new characters.
F*CK! That was the most exciting thing I was looking forward to on the Smash. F*ck! Sh*t! Balls!
That's disappointing but I guess it makes sense. I thought it cross-platform play was a given since I was watching my friend and sister play Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate together and because PlayStation All-Stars did it. :/
I hope Petey Piranha is a playable character in this installment.
Hold on a second...if cross-platform play is not possible between the WiiU and 3DS versions of the new Super Smash Bros. then why were they saying the character selection amount would be kept smaller than expected due to the 3DS not being equal in power to the WiiU?
not a problem. in fact, there are many 3DS players than Wii U players.
Eh, oh well. I'll probably end up getting both the Wii U and 3DS Super Smash Bros games anyway.
Still this game is a must buy, cross play is a nice feature to have, but not really necessary.
ok cool i didnt wanna buy a 3Ds no way!!!
not a big deal
I'm really curious as to what he means by customizable characters, like will it be custom movesets, costumes, what?
Awwwwww! Come on SSB step up to the big-boy leagues (PS3,Xbox,PC,& etc.) we all wanna play our favorite characters in an epic free-for-all!
Oh, well shucks, I guess.
Doesn't ultimately matter, I suppose. I plan to get the Wii U version, and I'm sure there will be plenty of people to play against.
Aw originally they were going to be cross play :c
Maybe it's better that way.
Hmm, seems that seems weird at first. But if some stages aren't laid out the same way, I can see why it wouldn't be cross-platform. I know the fans were actually looking forward to it.
