The lights are on
In the first few minutes of its E3 press conference on Monday, Microsoft announced that a redesigned model of the Xbox 360 is available now. Though actual details of this new 360 have been somewhat elusive, we know that the redesigned model is coming in at the same prices as the 360 Slim - $199 for 4GB, $299 for 250GB, or $299 for 4GB and Kinect. The Internet is tentatively calling this new model the Xbox 360 E.
So what exactly is the new Xbox 360?
iFixit published an “Xbox 360 E Teardown” today that took a detailed look the new console’s inner workings. They took apart the console piece by piece, analyzing each step along the way. The verdict? It’s uncannily similar to the Xbox 360 S.
The teardown found that many of the 360 E’s parts are identical to the Slim’s, including the hard drive, which is even labeled “Xbox 360 S.” Additionally, the new model’s fan is the exact one found in the S.
The outer casing for the model is different, of course, as it was redesigned to fit the modern aesthetic of the Xbox One. Most of its ports are the same, except for A/V and S/PDIF, which have been removed. The Xbox 360 E has four USB inputs as opposed to the five found on the S model.
The new Xbox 360 “will continue to roll out across all Xbox regions over the coming months."
Even the new PS3 changed enough to make it different than the other models. This is only an asthetic change for the Xbox 360.
The S model looks ten times better. I would fire whoever designed this. Worst xbox design to date. Xbox one is the second worst design. Heck if I could I would fire the whole xbox design team. Even an eraser shape looks more original. Good job Sony.
I just want to know...
did they get rid of the brick power supply? why isn't anyone talking about that?
This sh*t needs a price cut very badly. I own a solid seven games on Xbox Live that I've purchased on friends' consoles since semi-permanently loaning away my 1st gen 360 a couple of years ago... there is no way that am I buying a 4 gb console for $200 are you crazy Msoft?
Maybe they're just anticipating garbage sales on the XBOne and are trying to make up for it by price-gouging the crap out of anyone who is still willing to buy a 360.
Will Xbox 360 Players be able to play on Xbox One live players, if not why make a new model for Xbox 360?
So, it just looks a bit different to make some money? Well, you can hardly blame them.
Still 300 bucks huh? Microsoft what the *** happened to you? You have always ripped us off, but now its getting out of control...
they should call it the Xbox 361, lol.
So it's a newer look, with the same exact components as the S, but with less ports and the same price? Why is this a good thing?
I wish they released a xbox 360 redesign with slightly better specs so at least we can see a performance boost when navigating menus and launching apps. Perhaps the dashboard could stay in some extra RAM. Instead, we get this slightly gimped box and no decrease in price.
So that whole bit at the Microsoft event where they said that the new redesigned 360 was now "more quiet than ever" is basically utter bull. Why am I not surprised anymore?
www.change.org/.../square-enix-co-make-kingdom-hearts-hd-collection-come-out-on-xbox-360-as-well help bring kingdom hearts 1.5 remix to Xbox 360 as well by signing this petition. With this game Xbox fans who never got a chance to play Kingdom Hearts can get into it before kingdom hearts 3 comes out so please support this.
This just proves that Microsoft is really running out of ideas on what to do to show that they are still supporting Xbox 360 while the Xbox One is being developed. And it was really just a waste of time. Everybody who owns an Xbox 360 won't buy this, and Everybody else will probably be holding out for the next gen consoles. This was just a waste of time, money, and effort.
This'll be good for college since it's smaller. My S hard drive will still work, so I'll get the 4gb version and plug that in to it.
I don't plan on getting the One unless the price drops by at least $100, the camera doesn't spy on me, and they change their used game policy. It's like they're turning the One into a PC, and "One" of the things I hate about PC gaming is how expensive all the big-name games are. You can't buy them used, so you have to wait for a sale or make your wallet cry (although my wallet cried tears of joy when I got StarCraft II WoL and HotS, but that's the only exception). In fact, I think the two StarCraft expansions combined cost more than the other 30 games I have in my Steam Library (gotta love those holiday deals, am I right?)
