The lights are on
Microsoft has teased some changes to its wildly popular Gamerscore/achievements system for the Xbox One, and the company has detailed some of them – as well as explaining what Xbox One's new challenges are all about.
At Major Nelson's blog there is an entry by Cierra McDonald, the program manager for the Xbox Live achievements service. McDonald went into detail about the cloud-based achievements and challenges on Xbox One.

I like these new changes and look forward to seeing them more when the console is released.
Yeah, not so big on the achievements unlocking boosts and such. I think they tried it with the first Mass Effect and I didn't like it all that much.
Love my job, since I've been bringing in $82h… I sit at home, music playing while I work in front of my new iMac that I got now that I'm making it online. (Home more information)
Sounds great (i do like me some achievements), but not enough to make me happy about the xbox one
These additions sound pretty damn cool. I'm not a huge achievement hunter, but being able to unlock artwork and extras is a nice incentive beyond just adding to an arbitrary number. The fact the challenges can span multiple titles could be interesting, too. What I've always wanted since the Genocide achievement in Dead Rising: a way to track total kills/miles driven/time played, etc. across all titles. It's not likely here, but the challenges are a step closer.
