Dyack Acknowledges Controversy After Shadow Of The Eternals' Cancelled Kickstarter

by Liz Lanier on Jun 13, 2013 at 09:53 AM

The controversy is never-ending for Precursor Games chief creative officer Denis Dyack.

The studio's crowdfunding efforts on Kickstarter were cancelled for Shadow of the Eternals in a highly publicized fashion and started debate on the issues of former Silicon Knights employees working on the title.

It was revealed that some former Silicon Knights employees had kept assets from former projects and subsequently confirmed that those have been adapted for Shadow of the Eternals. Still, Dyack denies that there is a connection between Precursor Games and his former studio. (Update: We have added a clarification regarding the art assets and the connection between the two companies.)

"I guess it's safe to say there's always been noise around me,” Dyack said in an interview with Joystiq. “And I think that what I'm working on now is to make people understand the games that we're making."

Dyack further says that he believes part of the "noise" around the cancelled Kickstarter was caused by not informing the gaming community enough about the Shadow of the Eternals project. Instead, more of the focus has been on the creation of the Precursor Games studio. Dyack further insisted that linking Silicon Knights to Precursor and Shadow of the Eternals is a mistake as the two companies "have nothing to do with each other."

Shadow of the Eternals will be re-launched on Kickstarter with a lower goal than the original asking price of $1.3 million in the coming weeks. Whether or not the new fundraising efforts will still be overshadowed by Dyack and and the formation of Precursor Games remains to be seen.
