The lights are on
Update: I've found an official product page for the new Xbox 360, which says that it "will continue to roll out across all Xbox regions over the coming months." You can apparently purchase the console here, but details are "coming soon." The differences between the old 360 and the new 360 are still unclear.
Original Story: At its E3 press conference on Monday, Microsoft surprised its audience by revealing a redesigned version of the Xbox 360 console. Yusuf Mehdi, a senior vice president at Microsoft, gave the news on stage before Xbox One talk even started, and announced that the new console is "available today." He even showed us photos of the new design.
So where is this new Xbox 360?
A quick visit to the official Xbox website shows this redesigned 360 on display, sure enough. When I click “Buy Now at the Microsoft Store,” however, my browser takes me to an image of the old Xbox 360 design.
Target and Walmart, two behemoth retailers of video games, also show the old Xbox 360 design in their online stores.
GameStop’s and Amazon’s online Xbox 360 offerings: all old designs.
I even called four local video game retailers in the Minneapolis area. Only one of them had ever heard of a new Xbox 360. They had heard about it, but they didn’t have it.
Considering the fact that Microsoft has promised to care about the Xbox 360 for at least 5 more years, it’s surprising to me that the company would announce the availability of a redesigned model without showing us how to get it. What does this mean? Will they really continue to give attention to current-gen gamers, or is it next-gen or bust?
I can’t find anything on Google about how to purchase the new Xbox 360. Can you? Is it even worth caring about?
Microsoft has screwed up big time
They know the Xbox Done isnt gonna sell, so they are gonna keep pushing the 360. typical M$
Lame Microsoft. Promise us a "make up" X-box after X-Bone screwed with us and now you can't even tell us when it's coming out? Sony's behind a curtain laughing right now. I almost guarantee that there'll be a 3/1 ratio of PS4s per household than X-Box Ones.
Microsoft logic: IF you dont like the next gen console having to be online every 24 hours... Buy the xbox 360 again.
Gamer Logic:Or I could fork out 100 more over the 360 and get a next gen ps4 with next gen games and no connection required/restrictive drm.
As much as I love xbox, I really dont see how Microsoft will invest any more money into it after its sells plummet this holiday season.
Just another reason why I pre-ordered a PS4 today at my local GameStop store, and why I want nothing to do with the Xbox one-and-done.
The new console has been stuffed snugly up Yusuf Mehdi's ass.
This is the saddest example of damage control I've ever seen...
It's actually on Gamestop's website. Only the 4gb model though. And it says it launches on 6/21..
Glad to find out.
Microsoft has seriously *** the bed with "next gen."
Most likely in the garbage..
Do we really need another version at this junction of the consoles' lifespan? How long til most of us are onto the next get systems?
I really want the new 360. It kind of sucks that we aren't able to get it yet.
