The lights are on
Konami has filed a trademark application for "Contra Run and Gun."
Spotted on NeoGAF, the full details of the application can be seen in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) case viewer, though all it really says is that Contra Run and Gun is, indeed, a potential name for a video game.
During Konami's pre-E3 presentation last week, the Contra franchise was nowhere to be seen. The publisher did tease a new Contra game before E3 2011, and last year, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow developer Mercury Steam expressed interest in working with the Contra name.
Taking into account the popularity of the "infinite runner" genre on mobile platforms, several NeoGAF members hypothesized that Contra Run and Gun may be coming to phones. This is, of course, speculation.

After all this time you came back.
The name Contra Run and Gun does seem to be something you would find on a mobile or handheld device. It might show up on consoles though, especially with the new generation embracing different pricing models. Will be interested to see where this ends up.
Just don't be like Shattered Soldier where saving was broken...
With that title and the way the wind is blowing, it will almost certainly be a #&$@ing mobile game.
Contra Joyride. Ugh. Sickening.
Barf. I hope not. Mobile blows.
wish it was a sequel to uprising,
This should be pretty neat...as long as it isn't a mobile app.
I have waited too long for this, keep it as a sidescroller, and keep the Konami code.
Yeah..I could go for another contra..hope its done well.
Sick! I hope they make a console version and a mobile infinite one.
2D side-scroller, insane difficulty, an homage to the best in the series like Double Dragon Neon. I would pay a full $60 for an awesome vintage style Contra! If it is just another Temple Run clone, I may go into full on revolutionary anarchist mode.
Aww.. I wanted Probotector :(
I would LOVE a new Contra game, consoles are a def for this and would otherwise be a missed opportunity! I love nothing more then co-op Contra!
Been awhile, I wonder if they two projects are even connected
