Super Mario 3D World Revealed

by Brian Albert on Jun 11, 2013 at 04:29 AM

During this morning's Nintendo Direct E3 broadcast, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata unveiled Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U.

Iwata said the game represents the "next step forward" in the style of Mario game that began with Super Mario 3D Land. It features multiplayer with up to four players, and you can choose to play as Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach.

Taking a cue from Super Mario Bros. 2, each character has unique abilities. Peach can float, for example. Toad can run faster than others. Iwata said the multiplayer mode can be "as cooperative or as competitive as you make it."

A new power-up was revealed as well. Cat Mario can climb walls and scratch enemies with his claws.

Super Mario 3D World is set to release on Wii U this December.
