The lights are on
Microsoft announced that the Xbox One will be available this November and it will cost $499.99.
There will be a single SKU and it will cost €499 and £429 in other territories, and releases in the same month. We were unsure if Microsoft was planning to announce the price of its new console at E3, or if it was planning to withhold the information for a later date.
The Xbox 360 launched for $399.99 back in 2005.

$499 is not a bad price for the architecture of the console. It's not cheap by any means, but it isn't that bad overall. And there are tablets and other electronics the exact same price with much less power.
Im sold. No way I wont have an XBONE as you people are calling it, DAY ONE. I just hope DEAD RISING is a release title!!!!!!!!!!!
Microsoft just made the choice for me. $500 + always-online + no indies = no sale...
It's because Microsoft is including the Kinect sensor that no one asked for. Otherwise it would be $400. Watch the PS4 end up being $400. Just think about it. PS3 launched with the lowest price point being $500. People are predicting the PS4 will be cheaper because of that pricing disaster. My moneys on PS4 regardless. The only Xbox One game that appealed to me was Dead Rising 3 but that's just more of the same anyway.
I wish there was a version without the kinect and TV crap but I guess 500 isn't so bad considering the Xbox 360 was 399 back in 2005
Ouch. Even if I was interested, no thanks.
BOO! If you agree with me and don't like the direction Microsoft is taking with the Xbox One, then please don't support them and buy one anyway. That is one of the few ways we can (hopefully) make change that they will listen to. In this profit driven society, a loss in profits is the only true way to exercise our power over large corporations that won't listen to reason.
Most of the exclusives were disappointing looking, the best games shown were multiplat. This looks like the worst console since the VirtualBoy.
I'm sure the PS4 is close the same.
I'm not surprised with the price, I didn't understand why so many gamers/industry people thought it would be going for $400 or cheaper. That seems too low considering the price of games and consoles nowadays. The 250 GB 360 still sells for $300 right? $500 seems reasonable. Unless PS4 is announced at $400 or less (which I doubt will happen).
A SMARTPHONE is like 600-700 (Samsung). This is WAY MORE!!!!!!!
A little pricey, and means I will have a little saving to do. That's of course if I have internet turned on in my house. We will see.
$500 DRM Box? Nope.
A $500 system that takes ownership away from buyers!? Anyone that buys this is not very bright and that's putting it nicely.
